Paring: an all-important skill
When using four, five or even six different layers of leather, how do our expert leatherworkers manage to create edges which are elegantly delicate?
One word: paring. By using a paring knife, the leather’s edges can be thinned into a subtle bevel without being weakened, because the leather’s strength lies in its grain. This is a particularly skilled technique which takes years of patient work to learn.
