Our savoir-faire as saddler leatherworkers:
a perfect command of our tools
The edge beveler to soften an edge, the awl and needles, vital for hand-stitching (the hallmark of saddler leatherwork), the rivet setter to gently round each metal rivet, the chisel for making precise slits, strong, sharp scissors, the compass, the creaser, the paring knife (straight or half-moon), the hole punches, the edge groover, the pricking iron with its teeth to pierce the leather before stitching, the wooden burnisher, the mallet, the paring stone which sings beneath the hammer, the thickness gauge to measure the leather, the wax for the finishing touch and, of course, the stitching clam.
The art of handmade
When combined with the artful movements of our expert leatherworkers' hands, these tools create unique pieces which will stand the test of time. Every piece at Atelier Renard is made by a single expert leatherworker, from the initial preparation to the final product.
