Although every project is unique, creating a custom-made piece at Atelier Renard generally involves the same 5 stages:
- Deciding what the custom-made creation will look like,
- Choosing the leather, design options and every interior detail;
- Approving the quote and scheduling production;
- Starting the actual production process;
- Paying the balance and collecting or receiving the order.

This process is vital to fully understand our clients’ expectations. This can be straightforward if it’s simply a matter of ordering a model which is already part of our collection in the leather(s) and colours of your choice, but it can be more complex when coming up with something totally new.
When that’s the case, we like to take the time to produce at least one drawing so that our clients can see their ideas for themselves.
We can have these discussions at the workshop or on Zoom.
- Choosing the right leather
A single piece can have a radically different look and feel, depending on the leathers used to make it, so it’s important to choose these carefully. At Atelier Renard, in addition to helping our clients to choose the right type of leather, we also provide advice on shades and colours to ensure that your custom-made piece will truly feel like it’s yours and fill you with joy for many years to come.
- Approving the quote
Once decisions have been made about your item’s design and chosen leathers, we can provide a price which reflects the amount of work involved and the cost of the different materials, along with a timeline for production. If you accept the quote, you will be asked to pay a deposit of 50% before we start making your item.
- Production
Everything is made in our workshop in the heart of Paris. The process always begins with the creation of a template for the item (a model of all the individual pieces which make it up); it’s then made by hand in the leathers you have chosen.
- Paying the balance and receiving your order
As soon as your order is ready, you’ll be asked to pay the balance before collecting your order or having it delivered to the address of your choice.
How much does it cost and how long does it take to make a custom-made bag?
In general, it will take about 3 months for your order to be ready: that’s how long we need to create it by hand, in the traditional manner, with care and attention to detail at every stage. As for how much it costs, as you can imagine, it depends on the complexity of the design and the leathers you choose. We can create whatever you want: that’s what it means to create something which is truly bespoke!
In short, creating a custom-made piece:
- Involves a discussion phase (which can vary in length) to define the project, either at our workshop or on Zoom;
- Takes around 3 months;
- Comes with a custom price, depending on its complexity and the leathers you choose.
